Park Review
When I visited this new dog park we had just had an overnight rain storm. Like many other dog parks it is built in the low point of the park so it was flooded. The water appeared to be just rain water and not sewer back up so I let my dog play in it to her hearts content.
This park has healthy green grass and some nice trees. There is a drinking fountain for the dogs and some benches but no shaded area. The main enclosure is quite large and "L" shaped with a smaller long and narrow enclosure labeled for timid dogs. Its design is much like Mesa's Quail Run Park only smaller.
The neighborhood seems pretty good and there is plenty of parking.

We visited about 2-3 days after the park opened. I was disappointed that the park is just a converted drainage basin. There are four large drain grates, two of which are located smack in the middle of the large enclosure. The bars on the grates are about 2" apart, and just waiting for a dog to run into them. I hate to think of the damage they could do. I was also surprised to see oleander bushes inside the dog area. They are poisonous! I called the city to complain about both issues. We went back a second time today. The oleanders were gone, but only one grate was screened off. There just so happened to be a woman there with her dogs, who said she was a park liaison with the city council. She assured me that the remaining grates were a priority. She also said that the benches are being relocated to a shadier location and that the gravel slope at the entrance will be reconfigured, as some have slipped on the loose gravel. I would grade this park a C as it is now and a B when the changes have all been implemented.
Thanks for yours efforts, Bob West
