Park Review

This is one of the best dog parks on the north-west side of town. The dog park takes up 50% of the total area of this park. There is ample parking and it has a nice isolated feel to it.

You enter through one main entrance and the fenced in area is quartered. There are two small dog and two large dog areas. This allows for one of each to be closed for rehab at any time. There are plenty of shade trees and benches but no special features. Grass and water are good.

One problem is there are no public restrooms. If required I would recommend heading east about five blocks on northern to the Petsmart if you need to go.

I use the park 5 or more days a week. The dogs are small and love it and play well with the other dogs.  The grass is a bit dry right now and could use some watering. - Anonymous

My name is Rachael and I wanted to add a comment about Northern Horizon Park. I have been taking my puppy here since she was very young, she is almost 5 months now. She absolutely loves it. There is plenty of room to romp, and benches or tables to sit at. It is pretty dead during the day, but after 5pm it really picks up. It is true that the grass is pretty dry, but the dogs have a great time. In general the people are rather social, and everyone enjoys themselves. I have attached a picture of my puppy playing with her two best friends, who have taught her all about the rules of the park.

I would like to say that I love this site, and find it very useful. However, I have one concern. At at least one part of your site I read something comment along the lines of, "There are a lot of pit bulls at _____ park, so that is a reason to stay away". I think that is a completely inaccurate statement. In fact, I have never seen a pitbull fight at this park. The sweetest dog was attacked by a husky yesterday, and there are some pretty aggressive dogs at times, but it is unfair to discriminate against one breed. My puppy is not a pitbull, but her best buddy is one, and not one pitbull at this park has ever been anything but friendly. I think any dog has the potential to be aggressive if not properly socialized and trained. Sorry for the rant, but I felt it had to be said.

My reply: You have convinced me on pitbulls. It is the owners responsibility to train their dogs to not be aggressive.
